This year, the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting will be judged for the first time based on "real-time reporting." That means a Pulitzer could be handed out to a live-tweeting journalist. What was once considered a comic punchline has become a news reality. The networked age has brought journalists closer to newsmakers and news consumers than ever before. This is a tremendous opportunity for news-gathering, cultivating sources and building a sense of community. But it has also fundamentally reshaped what it means to be a journalist. Kristie Lu Stout has fully embraced social media and digital storytelling tools as an anchor/correspondent for CNN International. In her presentation to Columbia University and Stanford University alumni and friends, she will share her experiences using technology to find and tell compelling stories. Speaking on behalf of fellow journalists in the networked age, Stout emphasizes that it's still the news... only smarter. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Based out of CNN's Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, Kristie Lu Stout is an award-winning anchor/correspondent for CNN International. She has reported on the world's major news stories and the people behind those stories for over a decade. She has interviewed figures in a wide range of current events including Myanmar pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, and Chinese activist/artist Ai Weiwei. Ms. Stout holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree from Stanford University, and studied advanced Mandarin Chinese at Beijing's Tsinghua University.
